Humanitarian Projects

Parahita* Humanitarian Project is an overseas medical mission that usually lasted for 10-12 days , without counting the travel time from the US to the destination country. Sakya’s very first mission to Bodh Gaya, India in 2015 only consisted of 7 members delivered care to more than 1000 patients during the trip.  We were featured on the front page of a Indian newspaper that week. Sakya received many requests to return and serve the most impoverished population of India at Bihar states. Following our  first successful humanitarian mission,  we continued to thrive and recruited more volunteers for each subsequent events. Sakya currently has a dedicated team of 30-50 professional and supporting staff  from the US.  We typically partner with local professional organizations to ensure the proper permit is obtained and local laws are followed.  This compliance ensures that Sakya is welcome back for future missions.

We are looking for professional volunteers from medical, dental, vision and eastern medicine.  We encourage young  students** to join us on these missions to cultivate the seed of compassion in the early age. Please check below for upcoming humanitarian mission trips.

*Parahita is the Sanskrit term meaning ‘action for the benefit of others’.

**must be age 17 or above and must be accompanied by a guardian.

SPECIAL NOTE:  ALL DONATIONS FOR HUMANITARIAN MISSIONS  WILL GO DIRECTLY, 100% OF IT, TO BENEFIT THE PEOPLE WE SERVE. NO ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS ARE TAKEN FROM YOUR DONATIONS. ALL VOLUNTEERS PAY THEIR OWN AIRFARE, TRANSPORTATION, LODGING, MEALS, ETC… AND DONATE THEIR VALUABLE TIME AND EFFORTS TO THIS CAUSE. NO ONE GETS PAID IN OUR VOLUNTEER-BASED ORGANIZATION .

Because of your dedication, this mission was an incredible success. We all came to serve, but in the end, the experience changed each of us. Sakya Care Foundation
Recap for 5 Days in Quang Tri, Vietnam. June 27-July 1, 2026Now that I’ve finally arrived home, I can’t help but appreciate the comfort of my own bed. Yet, at the same time, my heart is filled with a deep sense of longing. I already miss everyone.I miss seeing the sea of Sakya Care's blue shirts filling the dining hall during breakfast and dinner. I miss watching that same sea of blue spread throughout the clinics, schools, and temples where we served together. It’s a strange feeling to finally be home, yet still feel like a part of me is back in Vietnam with all of you.I am truly humbled by the kindness, generosity, and sacrifices each of you made throughout this mission. Whether it was your time, energy, compassion, or unwavering dedication, every act of service made a meaningful difference.Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making this mission so special. I already miss each and every one of you, and I look forward to the day our paths cross again on another mission.Sincerely,Tami Phan, ODSakya Care Foundation, VPVision Clinic Director ...
